Biography

Marie Gayatri has been working with art in nature since the 90s. She is based in Sweden but works world wide. In a statement she explains her approach to her art works like this: “When approaching a new project I always reflect on the question – how do we relate to nature and what does Nature mean to us? I use thoughts and feelings we have developed around the topic “Nature” and choose a stand point in which nature is valued in a certain way. From that standpoint I start the practical aesthetical journey and allow myself to play and create imagines that are visually connected to those values of nature I’ve chosen to work from. In later years I’ve also worked with education and art in nature. I see this engagement very much as a way of involving people outside exhibition areas. And the part I play as a teacher becomes part of serving one goal – dedicated to artistic activities for art in nature. I believe that human conditions for survival are depending on how we relate to the environment and I use art as a medium to evoke questions and impulses to reflect on this.”
